Our Story

Disability Watford in a meetingDisability Watford was formed as an independent access group in 2010, by a few dedicated people with a disability who wanted to make a difference to the area they lived and work in and started to break down the barriers they encountered themselves every day.

Previous to 2010, the group was known and is still often referred to as Watford Disability forum.

This earlier generation of DW was established around 2005 as a project of Watford CVS. We were supported for many years by CVS and owe much for the help of their staff especially Vanessa  Levy. In these early days we could not have developed or continued without them.

Today, in addition to on-going help from CVS, DW receives much support from Watford Borough Council and the Mayor’s office.

More details of DW’s past success in campaigns can be found on our Campaigning page.

DW is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee and occupy an office in the Watford Community Housing Trust building.

DW is always seeking help from new volunteers, of all abilities and skills.
